Milena Fernandes

Milena Fernandes received a PhD in Marine Geochemistry from the University of Paris in 1996. She has since worked and published on a range of topics in aquatic and atmospheric biogeochemistry. In 2002 she joined the South Australian Research and Development Institute as a senior research scientist. She has recently moved to take up the position of senior marine scientist at the Australian Water Quality Centre of the South Australian Water Corporation. Her work has a strong focus on the dynamics of nutrients and persistent organic pollutants in the environment and its relationship to ecosystem health.

Jinju Geng

Jinju Geng was born in China, in 1978. She received her PhD in Environmental Science from Nanjing University, China in 2005. In 2005 she joined Nanjing University as immediate lecturer. Currently she is an associate professor at Nanjing University in the School of the Environment and Environmental group. Her current research interests are: environmental inorganic chemistry, phosphorus biogeochemical cycle and control of lake eutrophication.

Chun He

Chun He was born in China, in 1969. She received her PhD in Environmental Science from Sun Yat-sen University and China in 2003. In 2004 she joined the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan, as immediate JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) Fellow Researcher. Since 2008, she has been an Associate Professor at Sun Yat-sen University. Her current research interests are: environmental monitoring, environmental engineering in water and wastewater treatment, odor control.

Guo Hongyan

Guo Hongyan was born in China, in 1973. He received his PhD in environment science from Nanjing University, China in 2002. In 2003 he joined Nanjing University as immediate lecturer. Currently he is a professor at Nanjing University. His current research interests are: remediation of soil and groundwater, ecological effects of pollutants and their responses to global climate change.

Xianzhi Peng

Xianzhi Peng was born in 1967 in P. R. China. She received her PhD in Geochemistry from Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (GIGCAS) in 2000. She joined GIGCAS in 1991 as a research assistant. She has been a full research professor in GIGCAS since 2008. Her current research interests focus on (1) the occurrence and behaviour of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in the environment and (2) the development and application of chiral and isomeric fingerprinting in environmental research.

Yanqing Sheng

Yanqing Sheng was born in Ningxia, China, in 1974. In 2007, he received a PhD from Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China. In the same year, he joined Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research as a researcher assistant. Currently, he is an associate professor in the Key Lab of Coastal Zone Environmental Processes of Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His current research interests focus on the environmental behavior and biogeochemical processes of sulfur and heavy metals in the coastal region of China and also its global circulation.

Kaimin Shih

Kaimin Shih was born in Taiwan in 1972. He received his PhD in environmental engineering & science from Stanford University (USA) in 2005, and then worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the same program. Since 2007, he has been an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Hong Kong. His current research interests are in engineering and employing material properties for solid waste and water technologies, such as the reuse of sludge/ash for ceramic products, the fabrication of catalysts/membranes for water treatments, and the recovery of nutrients from waste streams.

Jianhui Tang

Jianhui Tang was born in the People’s Republic of China in 1976. He received his Masters degree in Environmental Sciences in 2003 from Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences and his PhD degree in 2007 from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He joined Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences as an assistant research professor in 2007. His current interests are distributions, sources and fates of organic pollutants in the coastal environment.

Guang-Guo Ying

Guang-Guo Ying was born in China in 1964. He received his BSc from Zhejiang University in China in 1986 and PhD in Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology from the University of Adelaide in Australia in 1999. He has worked as a research scientist at the University of Melbourne and CSIRO Land and Water (Australia) for many years. Currently he is a professor of environmental chemistry and ecotoxicology in the State Key Laboratory of Organic Geochemistry, Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He holds a dual appointment of principal research scientist in CAS Centre for Pearl River Delta Environmental Pollution and Control Research. His current research interests are: endocrine disrupting chemicals and pharmaceuticals and personal care products in the environment, and environmental issues associated with wastewater and biosolid reuse. He is interested in the development of chemical and biological tools for the risk assessment of contaminants in soil and water environments.

Jing You

Jing You is currently a Professor in the State Key Laboratory of Organic Geochemistry at Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). She received her BS from Changchun University of Science and Technology in 1996 and a PhD in Chemistry from Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS in 2000. She became fascinated by ecological risk assessment studies when conducting her postdoctoral research with Dr Michael Lydy at Southern Illinois University. Her areas of research interest are to assess exposure, toxicity, and risks of environmental contaminants, with a particular focus on bioavailability of organic contaminants in sediment.

Hongxia Yu

Hongxia Yu was born in China, in 1963. She received her PhD in Environment Science from the School of Environment, Nanjing University, China in 2003. She studied at the University of Sheffield as a Visiting Scholar for a year in 1998. Professor Yu considers herself an environmental toxicologist with interests in many aspects of this field, including both the fates and effects of potentially toxic compounds, particularly in the area of ecological risk assessment, aquatic toxicology. She has conducted research into the movement, bioaccumulation, and effects of toxic substances at different levels of biological organization, ranging from biochemical to ecosystem.
