Emerging Investigators issue

It is my great pleasure to introduce this issue of Molecular BioSystems devoted to outstanding young scientists at the chemical- and systems-biology interfaces. The issue is intended to highlight the work of these talented researchers and in so doing capture newly emerging high-impact areas of research.

As the readers will see, the research presented in this issue touches on some of the most exciting and important questions in these areas of biology. They include novel methods with which to visualize and manipulate protein function in living cells, the development of chemical techniques to monitor specific protein post-translational modifications, new insights into metabolomics and a number of other areas.

Members of the Editorial and Advisory Boards of Molecular BioSystems were invited to suggest the names of high-quality up and coming researchers in the field. These individuals were then invited to submit some of their recent work for this issue. All of the papers were subjected to rigorous peer review. The end result is an issue of Molecular BioSystems consisting of over 20 full research papers and communications, as well as some very interesting reviews. Clearly the future of this exciting area of biology is in good hands.

I would like to thank my colleagues on the Editorial and Advisory Boards for coming up with such an impressive list of contributors, but most of all I would like to thank all the Emerging Investigators themselves. I wish them every success in their future careers!
