Young Analytical Scientists (YAS) 2010

The purpose of this Editorial is to inform you of an upcoming themed issue of JAAS devoted to highlighting the work of outstanding young analytical scientists (YAS). This will be the 3rd YAS issue published in JAAS and like the previous two1,2 will include research by scientists within five years of finishing their PhDs. The objective of this themed issue series is to provide recognition to outstanding young scientists working in the area of analytical atomic spectrometry in order to assist them in becoming the next generation of promising analytical spectrometrists. In addition, we wish to further highlight and strengthen new areas of potentially high-impact research that are expected to contribute towards broadening the interdisciplinarity of the ever-expanding field of analytical atomic spectrometry.

Much of the success of the previous YAS issues has been attributed to the assistance of prominent scientists, including the JAAS Editorial and Advisory Board members, in their capacity to identify and nominate promising young analytical scientists as potential contributors. We now wish to further expand this highly successful practise by opening up the nomination process to our entire community. Therefore, we now invite all experienced and established academic or research scientists of our field and other related fields to consider nominating early stage and deserving young analytical scientists whose work they consider to be of high quality and of potentially high impact. A brief justification of the nomination will greatly assist the process.

The nomination process only requires that a brief nominating letter is sent to Dr Niamh O'Connor, Editor of JAAS (mailto:oconnorn@rsc.org) by 1st March 2009. Nominations will be considered in cooperation with the Editorial Board and invitations issued to potential contributors. Also keep in mind that we strongly encourage that all invited YAS contributors are in a position to act as corresponding author for the papers they submit. Please accept our gratitude in advance, as your assistance with the YAS themed issue is invaluable.
