Weak C–H⋯O interactions and their rôle in simple amine crystal structures

Abstract

The N,N-dimethylbenzyl ammonium maleate salt (1) undergoes chiral crystallization while its oxalate counterpart (2) yields to a centrosymmetric crystal. The difference is related to the motif formation in the chiral vs. the centrosymmetric crystal. The X-ray treatment is complemented by a CSD data bank search of the C–H⋯O geometry of –CH2–N moieties.
