Abstract

This presentation will discuss the difficulties and challenges involved in setting-up a new chemistry curriculum, in a newly-founded University, in a country where no university existed prior to its establishment. Parameters that influenced choices made, included space (especially laboratories) limitations, staffing problems leading to the use of visiting staff, the need for frequent reorganisation of the course (moving courses from one semester to the next) depending on the availability of visiting staff, and the likely employment of future graduates.
