Ambient-temperature syntheses of layered iron(III) phosphates in silica gels

Abstract

Two layered iron(III) phosphates, [C5NH6][Fe(HPO4)2(H2O)2] and [C3N2H5][Fe(HPO4)2(H2O)2], have been prepared in silica-gel media at ambient temperature and pressure. Their structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The compounds contain similar inorganic layers constructed from FeO6 octahedra and PO4 tetrahedra, but differ in their layer stacking patterns. The compounds are the first layered iron phosphates to be reported in which the Fe∶P ratio is 1∶2.
