Abstract

A one-dimensional coordination polymer derived from edge-shared hexagonal units is reported. Each hexagon is composed of six nickel(II) cations linked by 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate. The ribbons of hexagons are held together by hydrogen bonding interactions through free carboxylic acid units. Large pores (ca. 33% of the crystal volume) exist within the crystal structure. These are filled with disordered butan-1-ol, which may be removed by heating to 150 °C resulting in framework collapse
