Abstract

The crystal and molecular structures of [Au2(2-Hmba)2(-PPh2(CH2)2Ph2P)] (1) and its 1 : 2 adduct with DMSO (1.2DMSO) are reported. In 1, a two-dimensional structure is found mediated, in part, by carboxylic acid dimer formation within the layers. In the di-solvate, these functionalities are not available as they are involved in hydrogen-bonding contacts to DMSO. Nevertheless, a two-dimensional structure is also formed showing that carboxylic acid dimer formation is not pivotal in determining the crystal structure in these systems
