Synthesis and structures of neutral and cationic 1-azaallylaluminium methyls †

Abstract

The 1-azaallylaluminium compounds [[upper bond 1 start]Al{N(R)C(Bu^t)C[upper bond 1 end](H)R}{N(R)C(Bu^t)[double bond, length half m-dash]C(H)R}Me] (X-ray characterised), [upper bond 1 start]Al{N(R)C(Bu^t)C[upper bond 1 end](H)R}Me₂, Al{N(R)C(Ph)[double bond, length half m-dash]C(H)R}Me₂ 3 and Al{N(R)C(Ph)[double bond, length half m-dash]C(H)R}₂Me(thf ) were obtained from the appropriate methylaluminium chloride and 1-azaallyllithium; 3 with B(C₆F₅)₃ gave [Al{N(R)C(Ph)[double bond, length half m-dash]C(H)R}Me(thf )(OEt₂)][BMe(C₆F₅)₃] (R = SiMe₃).
