Abstract

Reaction of the dilithium salt of tripyridyldiamine, Li₂tpda, and CrCl₂ in THF gave the pentachromium compound Cr₅(tpda)₄Cl₂·CH₂Cl₂ in which the metal atoms were arranged in a linear fashion with localized quadruple bonds Cr[quadruple bond, length as m-dash]Cr  · · · Cr[quadruple bond, length as m-dash]Cr · · · Cr.
