Chiral non-racemic N-cyanomethyloxazolidines: the pivotal system of the CN(R,S) method

Abstract

The α-cyanomethyloxazolidine ring system has been integrated into piperidine and pyrrolidine structures providing chiral non-racemic building blocks. Reaction conditions have been determined for regio- and stereoselective substitution of the ring atoms. This review highlights the applications of the methodology for the diastereoselective synthesis of both natural and unnatural derivatives containing either the piperidine or the pyrrolidine ring as a substructure.
