Abstract

The electronic absorption of Michler’s ketone (MK) and related push–pull sensitisers undergoes a strong red shift upon coordination with lanthanide(III) β-diketonates, which enables unprecedently efficient sensitisation of Eu3+ luminescence for excitation at long wavelengths extending well into the visible region to above 450 nm.
