The synthesis and structure of Tl(Sr1.4La2.6)Ni2O9; a direct structural analogue of a superconducting cuprate

Abstract

The nickelate Tl(Sr1.4La2.6)Ni2O9, synthesised by the reaction of Tl2O3, La2O3 and Sr2Ni2O5, is isostructural with the equivalent superconducting cuprate phase, consisting of layers of apex-sharing, stoichiometric NiO6 octahedra separated by a TlO layer.
