Abstract

Fused cyclopentane derivatives, viz. methyl 2-oxobicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-1-carboxylate (2a), methyl 6-methyl-2-oxobicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-1-carboxylate (2b) and methyl 3-oxotricyclo[3.3.0.02,8]octane-2-carboxylate (6), have been functionalized by using the hypervalent iodine reagents iodobenzene diacetate (IBD) and [hydroxy(tosyloxy)iodo]benzene (HTIB).
