Abstract

Iron oxide sorbents supported on high surface area (49 g-1) SiC have been prepared and characterized. The results show that several forms of iron oxide can coexist including γ-Fe2O3, α-Fe2O3 and an amorphous phase, and these phases are homogeneously dispersed on the SiC surface (particle size from 1 to 5 nm). After controlled calcination the sorbent pore size distribution, measured by N2 adsorption, ranged from 2.5 to 50 nm, which allowed a high accessibility of the reactant gas without microdiffusion phenomena.
