Abstract

Detection limits cause problems for analytical chemists because they are difficult to interpret and because the arbitrary dichotomising of the concentration domain provides a misleading viewpoint of the behaviour of analytical systems. A joint consideration of uncertainty of measurement and fitness for purpose could avoid these problems.
