The formation processes of silverless photographic images consisting of iron(iii) chelates with 8-sulfanylquinoline, 5-thiomethyl-8-sulfanylquinoline and 5-bromo-8-sulfanylquinoline from an initial silver image on silver halide photographic layers by three-stage chemical processing (bleaching, fixing and toning) have been obtained and analysed. It has been determined that the redox process FeII →FeIII takes place here and, also, the image carriers are Fe(OH)2 , FeO(OH) and the corresponding coordination compounds with an FeIII ion–organic ligand ratio of 1:3.
