Conversion of silver images on silver halide photographic materials into silverless ones consisting of iron(III) chelates with 8-sulfanylquinoline and some of its derivatives

Abstract

The formation processes of silverless photographic images consisting of iron(iii) chelates with 8-sulfanylquinoline, 5-thiomethyl-8-sulfanylquinoline and 5-bromo-8-sulfanylquinoline from an initial silver image on silver halide photographic layers by three-stage chemical processing (bleaching, fixing and toning) have been obtained and analysed. It has been determined that the redox process Fe^II →Fe^III takes place here and, also, the image carriers are Fe(OH)₂ , FeO(OH) and the corresponding coordination compounds with an Fe^III ion–organic ligand ratio of 1:3.
