Abstract

Reaction of quinolin-8-ol (HQ) with [Ru(bpy)Cl3] (bpy=2,2′-bipyridine) in the presence of NEt3 affords [RuII(bpy)(Q)2] which shows a RuII–RuIII oxidation at -0.16 V vs. SCE and a RuIII–RuIV oxidation at 1.06 V vs. SCE; its oxidation by Ce4+ gives [RuIII(bpy)(Q)2]+ which has been isolated and characterized as the perchlorate salt.
