Target and spiral wave patterns in premixed gas combustion

Abstract

Excitable behaviour occurs in premixed gas combustion. Single and multiple target patterns, rotating spiral waves and spatially disordered and temporally chaotic patterns, reminiscent of chemical turbulence, have been observed experimentally on freely propagating and burner-stabilized premixed gas flames.
