Abstract

The products of the thermolytic reaction of [Ru3(CO)12] with styrene, 4-methylstyrene and 4-trifluoromethylstyrene respectively have been determined. In each case, compounds of the type [Ru4(CO)1241 ∶η1∶η2∶η 2-HCCC6H4R)] 1, [Ru3(CO)836∶η2∶η1∶ η1-HCC(H)C6H3R}] 2 and [Ru6C(CO)146-MeC6H 4R)] 3 are observed (where R = H, Me or CF3). The single-crystal structures of [Ru4(CO)1241 ∶η1∶η2∶η 2-HCCC6H5)] 1a, [Ru3(CO)8{HCC(H)C6H3 Me}] 2b and [Ru6C(CO)146-1,4-Me2 C6H4)] 3b have been determined. A fourth species [Ru6(CO)1541 ∶η1∶η2∶η 2-HCCC6H4R)(η6-C6 H4REt)] 4 is also reported, and a possible structure suggested.
