Abstract

A series of ruthenium(II) complexes with crown-containing ligands of the types [Ru([upper bond 1 start]NN[upper bond 1 end])2(L′)]2+ {[upper bond 1 start]NN[upper bond 1 end] = 2,2′-bipyridine (bipy), L′ = N-(2-pyridinylmethylene)- 2,3,5,6,8,9,11,12-octahydro-1,4,7,10,13-benzopentaoxacyclononadecin-16- ylamine (dic); [upper bond 1 start]NN[upper bond 1 end] = 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), L′ = dic} and [Ru([upper bond 1 start]NN[upper bond 1 end])(L′)]2+ {[upper bond 1 start]NN[upper bond 1 end] = L′ = N-[4-{4′-(2,2′∶6′,2″- terpyridyl)}benzyl]-1,4,7,10-tetraoxa-13-azacyclopentadecane (L1); [upper bond 1 start]NN[upper bond 1 end] = 2,2′∶6′,2″- terpyridine (terpy), L′ = L1} have been synthesized and their emission, electrochemical and cation-binding properties studied.
