Crystal structure and synthesis of a novel tetranuclear iron(III) complex with a defective double-cubane core

Abstract

A novel tetranuclear iron(III) complex [Fe₄(OCH₃)₆(acac)₄(N₃ )₂] (acac = acetylacetonate) has been synthesized and shown by X-ray crystallography to contain an unusual defective double-cubane core connected by µ-OCH₃ and µ₃-OCH₃ bridges; it also shows an antiferromagnetic interaction.
