Synthesis and characterisation of the novel mixed-metal cluster [Ru5Rh(CO)12(µ-CO)(µ4-η 2-CO)2(η5-C5 Me5)]

Abstract

The reaction of the octahedral dianion [Ru6(CO)18]2- with the dication [Rh(η5-C5Me5)(MeCN)3] 2+ afforded the novel mixed-metal cluster [Ru5Rh(CO)12(µ-CO)(µ4-η 2-CO)2(η5-C5Me5)], which has been shown by an X-ray analysis to contain a bi-edge bridged tetrahedral framework, with the Rh(η5-C5Me5) unit at the apex of the tetrahedron, and two µ4-η2-CO capping carbonyl ligands.
