Synthesis of tetrasubstituted derivatives of [Fe3(CO)12]

Abstract

The treatment of [Fe3(CO)10L1L2] [L1, L2 = CO, P(OMe)3, P(OCH2)3CMe] with CNBut in the presence of Me3NO yields the tetrasubstituted derivatives, [Fe3(CO)8(CNBut)4], [Fe3(CO)8(CNBut)3{P(OMe)3}], [Fe3(CO)8(CNBut3)- {P(OCH2)3CMe}], [Fe3(CO)8(CNBut3)2{P(OCH2)3CMe}2], [Fe3(CO)8(CNBut)2{P(OCH2)3CMe}{P(OMe)3}] and [Fe3- (CO)8(CNBut3)2{P(OMe)3}2]; the compounds were characterised by analysis, mass spectrometry, IR, and (in part) 1H and 31P NMR spectroscopy.
