Abstract

Nickel-stabilized zirconia (Zr0.8Ni0.2O2), a reusable, solid catalyst, efficiently catalyses the chemoselective reduction of nitroarenes, aldehydes and ketones using propan-2-ol and KOH, in the liquid phase, exhibiting the reactivity order NO2 >> C[double bond, length as m-dash]O > C–X >>C[double bond, length as m-dash]C.
