The catalytic activity of a DNA–CuII complex for the oxidation of aminoethanethiol is reversibly inhibited by intercalation with the DNA-binding drug quinacrine, in a concentration dependent manner, which could be detected via an amperometric signal by using a DNA–CuII complex entrapping hydrogel and an oxygen electrode.
