Abstract

An oxygen sensing material based on platinum tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl) porphyrin (PtTFPP) has been developed and characterized using luminescence quenching by oxygen of PtTFPP molecules immobilized in polystyrene (PS) polymer. This is a photostable sensing material that exhibits minimal deterioration (only 9.2% decrease of initial intensity after continuous illumination for 50 h with excitation at 508 nm). The signal changes of the PtTFPP/PS membrane are large enough to allow quantification of oxygen with good sensitivity (I0/I100>3). Response times are 18 s for de-oxygenated to oxygenated conditions and 1 min for the reverse conditions.
