Synthesis of pyridine/pyridinium-based alkynyl monomers, oligomers and polymers: enhancing conjugation by pyridine N-quaternization

Abstract

Quaternization of the pyridine nitrogen in 2,5- and 2,6-diethynylpyridine-based organic and organometallic monomers, oligomers and polymers via solution nucleophilic substitution reactions yields stable pyridinium analogues, and enhances π-electron delocalization along the backbone as evidenced by strong red shifts in the UV–VIS absorption spectra.
