Rapid method for the determination of metals in lubricating greases

Abstract

A method for the rapid determination of the metal content in lubricating greases using xylene–hydrochloric acid extraction has been developed. Determination was by AAS. The results were found to have comparable precision and repeatability to those of conventional methods. The method requires only a simple modification of a glass extraction unit. The relative standard deviation was 0.520–0.650%(n= 5).
