Formation of wavy-line texture of zinc ferrite by solid-state reaction

Abstract

A characteristic wavy-line texture of zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4) has been formed on the surface of Fe2O3 particles by solid-state reaction between α-Fe2O3 and ZnO particles. The wavy lines were confirmed as having the ferrite composition. The texture was formed by an initial rapid interface reaction followed by the widening and densification of the wavy lines on the surface of the Fe2O3 particles. The thickness of the ferrite was only 2–3 µm even after the yield reached saturation.
