Synthesis and mesomorphism of nickel, palladium and zinc complexes of laterally fluorinated alkoxydithiobenzoates

Abstract

The synthesis and mesomorphism of a series of 4-alkoxy-3-fluorodithiobenzoates of NiII, PdII and ZnII are described. For nickel and palladium, fluorination promoted the smectic C phase at the expense of the nematic phase. In the case of nickel, mesomorphic ranges were slightly reduced, but they were increased in the palladium complexes.
