Equilibrium of ammonium ion exchange by NaX zeolite

Abstract

Na+–NH+4 ion-exchange isotherms have been determined in zeolite NaX at 25 °C and total solution-phase concentrations of 0.1, 0.05, 0.025 mol dm–3. The corrected selectivity coefficient, Kc, data were filled to a polynomial equation. The equation which represents Kc as a function of the equivalent cation fraction of NH+4 in the zeolite phase was used for the predication of isotherms at different normalities. The experimental points are in reasonable agreement with the predicted isotherms.
