A dilithium o-phenylenediphosphide [Li(tmeda)]2[C6H4(PR)2-1,2] as a [C6H4(PR–)2-1,2] or [C6H4(P2–)2-1,2] synthon: the X-ray structures of C6H4[PCH2CHOCMe2OCHCH2-RR]2-1,2 and [C6H4{P(SiBut-P)-1,2}]3(µ3-SiBut)(R = SiMe3, tmeda =[Me2NCH2]2)

Abstract

The crystalline dilithium diphosphide [Li(tmeda)]₂[C₆H₄(PR)₂-1,2]1[R = SiMe₃, obtained from C₆H₄(PRR″)₂-1,2 (R′= R″= H or R, or R′= H and R″= R)] reacts with H₂O, SiCl₃Me, or [Zr(η-C₅H₃R₂-1,3)₂Cl₂] to yield rac- and meso- C₆H₄(PHR)₂-1,2, C₆H₄(PR₂)₂-1,2, or [[graphic omitted]R)₂-1,2}], respectively; whereas 1 with RR-Me₂C(OĊHCH₂OTs)₂(Ts = toluene-p-sulfonate) or SiBu^tCl₃ affords C₆H₄[[graphic omitted]H₂-RR]₂-1,2 or [[graphic omitted])-1,2}]₃(µ₃-SiBu^t), respectively.
