Electrochemical approach to halochromism: effect of salts upon the oxidation potential of Fe(CN)2(Phen)2

Abstract

The effect of alkali-metal and alkaline-earth-metal perchlorates upon the oxidation potential in organic solvents of dicyanobis(1,10-phenanthroline)iron(II) has been studied. The electrochemical treatment led to the same empirical expression that had previously been suggested to describe, in a quantitative way, the halochromic behaviour of Reichardt's ET(30) dye in alcoholic solutions.
