Temperature dependence of the square-mound potential for 1 : 1 electrolytes in acetone, dimethyl sulphoxide and alcohols

Abstract

The anion–cation square mound potential parameter has been calculated from conductance measurements for some 1 : 1 electrolytes in acetone, dimethyl sulphoxide and the homologous series methanol through octanol in the temperature range –73 to +185 °C. The value d±/kBT and its temperature variation is discussed in terms of short-range ion–molecule and intermolecular interactions. It has been found that orientational correlations of solvent molecules play a major role in the temperature dependence of d±/kBT.
