A simple and sensitive method for the determination of benzyl cyanides using 2,2′,4,4′-tetranitrobiphenyl as the colouring agent is described. α-Alkyl- and α,α-dialkyl-benzyl cyanides do not interfere with the determination. The accuracy and precision of the method were checked by high-performance liquid chromatography.
