Use of a microwave oven to dry barium sulphate precipitates in the determination of sulphate

Abstract

The use of a microwave drying technique as an alternative to the conventional method of drying barium sulphate precipitates is discussed. The proposed method was tested using certified reference materials and was applied to the determination of sulphate in triglycine sulphate. The precision and accuracy of the results demonstrate that the microwave drying technique is an excellent alternative, which avoids the difficulties associated with the use of filter-paper in the conventional drying method.
