Synthesis of RhI-σ-acetylide complexes in aqueous and non-aqueous solutions: molecular structures of [(PMe3)4Rh(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CPh)] and [(PMe3)3Rh(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CSiMe3)]

Abstract

Attempted deprotonation of the cationic cis-[Rh(PMe3)4(H)(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CR)]Cl salts with BunLi leads to the formation of both [Rh(PMe3)4(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CR)] and [Rh(PMe3)4H] whereas the use of KOH/H2O yields exclusively the RhIσ-acetylides; the molecular structures of the trigonal-bipyramidal [Rh(PMe3)4(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CPh)] and square-planar [Rh(PMe3)3(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CSiMe3)] complexes have been determined by X-ray diffraction.
