Coordination structure of vanadium(IV) ions in the mixed-solvent systems of formamide and ammonium formate

Abstract

The coordination structure of VIV ions in the mixed-solvent systems of HCONH2 and HCO2NH4 has been investigated using EXAFS (extended X-ray absorption fine structure) method for the V K-edge. VIV ions exist as vanadyl ions (VO2+) and form distorted [VO(HCO2)x(HCONH2)5–x]2–x(2 ⩽x⩽ 5) octahedra with one short V—O bond length of ca. 1.63 Å and five V—O bond length of ca. 2.07 Å in the HCONH2–HCO2NH4 system.
