Simultaneous determination of organic isomers in mixtures by flow injection analysis with a diode array photodetector

Abstract

The resolution of mixtures of hydroxylated aromatic isomers has been carried out by the combined use of flow injection analysis and a diode array photodetector. The method proposed for determination of binary mixtures of 1-and 2-naphthol and binary and ternary mixtures of o-, m-and p-cresol makes use of the same indicator reaction (coupling of a diazonium salt to the hydroxylated compound). The use of a suitable computer program allows the collection of data at several wavelengths per injection, from which those providing the smallest error in the mixture resolution are then selected.
