Stereoassociation of poly(methyl methacrylate). Relationship between a synergic effect in the solution power and a change in the solvent complexing capacity

Abstract

The influence of the solvating power of the binary mixture comprising dimethylformamide(1) and carbon tetrachloride(2) in the stereocomplex formation of PMMA has been studied by laser light scattering and viscometry. As solvent power of the binary mixture increases the rate of formation of the PMMA stereocomplex decreases. We have followed the processes of aggregation and compactness of PMMA stereocomplex particles by measuring the apparent molecular weight and the ratio between the radius of gyration and the molecular weight, R2G/Mw, respectively. The time dependences of these magnitudes can be expressed by simple kinetic equations.
