Magnetic circular dichroism spectra of azobenzene and its 4-amino and 4-nitro derivatives

Abstract

The m.c.d. spectra of azobenzene, p-aminobenzene and p-nitroazobenzene in the trans configuration are reported. All spectra present a rather complex structure in the region of the first ππ* absorption band, indicating the presence of more than one transition. The main features of the spectra are analysed with the aid of CNDO/S calculations, permitting an assignment of the various transitions.
