Di-isothiocyanatotetrakis(α-phenylethylamine)nickel(II): structures of host and clathrate complexes

Abstract

By X-ray crystallographic means, structures of Ni(NCS)2(α-phenylethylamine)4[obtained from racemic (±) and enantiomerically-pure (+) aminel], have been found to be cis with respect to the –NCS groups; preparation of the NiII complex from the (±) amine in the presence of (±) s-butylbenzene results in the formation of a 1 : 1 clathrate in which the co-ordinated –NCS groups are trans to each other and the guest molecule is disordered.
