Oxidation and reduction of diazofluorene. A pulse-radiolysis study
Abstract
In neutral solution the radical Me2ĊOH reduces diazofluorene (FIN2) to FIN2H· with k 4.6 × 108 dm3 mol–1s–1 and this N-protonated radical (ε 3 850 dm3 mol–1 cm–1) decays in a second-order reaction with 2K3.7 × 108 dm3 mol–1s–1. FIN2H· does not react with oxygen. In the presence of NaOH FIN2–. is formed and this radical is long lived but rapidly transfers an electron to oxygen and to p-nitroacetophenone. Trichloromethylperoxyl, Cl3COO·, oxidises FIN2 with K 1.2 × 107 dm3 mol–1s–1.
