Synthesis and X-ray structural characterisation of Mo(S2CNEt2)3(η2-SO2) and evidence for a thionyl chloride complex of MoIII
Abstract
The reaction of MoCl(S2CNEt2)3 with sulphur dioxide in dichloromethane solution under anaerobic reducing conditions gives both black crystals of the title complex, for which an X-ray structural analysis reveals an S, O bonded η2-SO2 complex, and a second product for which analysis, mass spectral, i.r., and chemical evidence supports formulation as Mo(S2CNEt2)3(SOCl2), the first example of a thionyl chloride complex.
