Formation of co-ordinated diphenylketen from carbon monoxide and an alkylzirconocene(IV) benzhydryl complex: X-ray structure of [{Zr(η-C5H5)2(OC[double bond, length half m-dash]CPh2)}]2

Abstract

The zirconocene (IV) dialkyls [Zr(η-C5H5)2(CHPh2)R][R = Me, (1), or CH2SiMe3(2)]react under ambient conditions with CO during 1–2 days in OEt2or C6H6 to give [{Zr(η-C5H5)2(OCCPh2)}2](3),[58%from (2)],as well as [Zr(η-C5H5)2{η-2C(O)R}CHPh2][24%from (2)];the X-ray structure of complex (3) shows that the molecule contains the nucleus [graphic omitted], with each of the Zr–O distances equal, 2.165(3)Å, and Zr–C = 2.204(3)Å.
