Total synthesis of ancistrofuran, a defensive compound from the termite ancistrotermes cavithorax

Abstract

The principal component of the defensive secretion from the major soldiers of the termite Ancistrotermes cavithorax has been shown to be ancistrofuran (1); this structural assignment has now been confirmed by detailed spectroscopic considerations and by total synthesis.
