General synthesis of substituted and unsubstituted crown ethers

Abstract

Substituted and unsubstituted crown ethers were prepared in good yields by treatment of the corresponding polyethylene glycols with sulphonyl chlorides in the presence of alkali metal hydroxides, the metal ion acting as the template atom.
