A novel chain structure in the [Pb2Cl9]n5n anion; crystal and molecular structure of [Co(NH2CH2CH2NH2)3]2[Pb2Cl9]Cl.3H2O

Abstract

Reaction of chloroplumbic acid and trisethylendiaminecobalt(III) chloride gives organge-yellow crystals of composition Co(en)3PbCl5.1·5H2O; an X-ray crystallographic investigation has shown the presence of a novel type of chain [Pb2Cl9]5n, formed from PbCl6 octahedra by alternate sharing of vertices and edges.
