Cycloaddition of nitrosobenzene to N-ethoxycarbonylazepine

Abstract

Nitrosobenzene reacts with N-ethoxycarbonylazepine (ethyl 1H-azepine-1-carboxylate) to form a cycloadduct. Spectral characteristics indicate a [6 + 2]π-type structure. Additional spectroscopic evidence was obtained from a comparison of the hydrogenated derivatives of the azepine adduct and the [6 + 2]π cycloadduct of nitrosobenzene and cycloheptatriene. The structure was confirmed as (1) by an X-ray crystallographic study.
